1. How much does cataract surgery cost?

2. How long will the surgery last?

Cataract surgery last approximately 30 minutes long, however with the pre and post operative care you may expect to stay at the surgery center approximately 3 hours.

3. Will I have to wear glasses after the surgery?

Depending upon what other ocular conditions you might have prior to surgery; you may/or may not have to wear glasses after surgery. Please discuss the post-operative outcome with your surgeon prior to surgery.

4. What specific restrictions will I have and how soon can I resume my normal activities?

Because of sedation you may not drive for at least 24 hours after surgery. You will not be allowed to lift over 30 lbs. nor undertake any physically strenuous activity for a short time. You should not shower the day after surgery. You should not swim until the doctor advises you that it is okay. Other than these restrictions you may resume most normal duties. We suggest you discuss this with your physician or the nursing staff prior to surgery for any clarification

5. How soon after surgery can I drive?

Your physician will answer this question when you return for your first day post- operative appointment.

6. What medications can I take prior to surgery?

Please discuss what medications you can/or cannot take prior to surgery with your physician or the PSC department.

7. Once I've had cataract surgery will I ever develop another cataract?

The answer is “NO”. You will never grow another cataract. However, it is possible to develop a thin veil commonly known as the secondary membrane which can interfere with optimum vision. This is easily treated by laser at our out-patient surgery center.

8. What will my insurance cover?

Every insurance company and policy is different. It is the patient's responsibility to communicate directly with the insurance company in verifying coverage. Additionally, our business office is available for assistance.
